Today, asphalt concrete is the main kind of pavement used in the industrialized countries. It is involved in 90-95% of motor roads surface dressing. But as almost any building material, asphalt concrete also has its disadvantages (cracks, microfractures and flaking).
Repair of asphalt concrete coating is performed either by providing additional layers (strengthening), or a surface protective layer. Note that creation of thin layers of hot asphalt concrete mixtures is characterized by rapid cooling down, with bad adhesion to the bedding, and slow densification.
In the world practice, thin layer road-surface dressing uses bitumen emulsion-mineral mixes. These materials are unpretentious to weather conditions, are characterized by good placeability, energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
Only the emulsion complying a Certificate of Conformity requirements can be used for road construction works. What kind of document it is and what is it for? Let’s try to understand.
Certificate of Conformity is a document certifying that the product (bitumen emulsion) conforms the standards, codes of rules or terms of contracts. There is a mandatory and a facultative certificate of conformity. Both documents are of equal legal force. The first one should be executed on a mandatory basis, the second one – mainly at the request of the customer. Facultative certificate is usually used to confirm certain properties of bitumen emulsion – to convince a consumer of its high quality.
Issuing bitumen emulsion certificate involves testing it in special laboratories. Certificate of Conformity in this case is issued on the basis of the lab report.
Bitumen emulsion certificate includes the following information:
- Name of Organization that Issued Certificate;
- Reference Number;
- Product Name;
- Model No;
- Applicant’s name;
- Certificate Holder;
- Applicable Standard;
- Test Report Number;
- Conclusions of Assessment;
- Certificate Valid for;
- Authorised Signatory;
- Stamp of Certifying body;
- Date of Issuance.
